Jayhawks Move Up In Conference Face Toughest Non Conference Test In 15 Years

Kansas football's schedule could prove to be more challenging than anticipated

Jayhawks move up in conference, face toughest non-conference test in 15 years

Kansas football's 2023 schedule is out, and it's one of the toughest the Jayhawks have faced in recent memory.

After years of being one of the weakest teams in the Power Five, Kansas is coming off a 6-7 season in 2022 and a bowl game appearance.

But the Jayhawks will have their work cut out for them in 2023, as they move up to the Big 12 Conference and face one of their toughest non-conference schedules in 15 years.

Here's a look at some of the challenges Kansas will face in 2023:

  • A move to the Big 12 Conference: The Big 12 is one of the toughest conferences in college football, and Kansas will have to face some of the nation's top teams on a weekly basis.
  • A tough non-conference schedule: Kansas will face three Power Five teams in its non-conference schedule, including a trip to SEC foe Kentucky.
  • A young and inexperienced team: Kansas lost a number of key players from its 2022 team, including quarterback Jalon Daniels and running back Devin Neal.

Despite the challenges, Kansas is confident that it can compete in 2023.

"We know it's going to be a tough schedule, but we're excited about the challenge," said Kansas coach Lance Leipold.

"We've got a good group of guys who are working hard and are committed to getting better every day," Leipold added. "We're looking forward to the season and see what we can accomplish."
